Law Enforcement Command Officer Program

TPCA’s Law Enforcement Command Officer Program (LECOP) was developed to provide the very best executive and command level training for chiefs, commanders, supervisors, and future leaders in Texas law enforcement. The courses are designed to equip professionals to lead and manage throughout their organizations and recognize those individuals who work hard to prepare themselves for leadership opportunities.

Earn acknowledgment as a trained Law Enforcement Command Officer by completing a series of 10 training courses. Classes are open to all Texas Law Enforcement agencies and are designed to develop leadership skills and apply those skills to specific assignments.

For training or questions regarding LECOP please contact Chief Kevin Lunsford (Ret.), TPCA Foundation Training Director, at klunsford@texaspolicechiefs.org.

Course Tracks

LECOP courses are designed for the student to be able to work through everything at their own pace – as fast or as slow as works for the individual. LECOP courses focus on Personal Leadership Development (Track A courses) and on Organizational Health and Integrity (Track B courses). A combined total of 10 courses from BOTH tracks must be taken – 3 required courses and 2 electives from EACH track, for the total of 10.

Most of our classes are 2-3 days in length, some more, some less.  The main exception is our flagship course DEVELOPING LEADERS which is 120 hours (3 weeks).  Those three weeks are spread out over a 3-month period, requiring one week per month.  After TPCA verifies completion of all 10 courses,  applicants will then be officially awarded as a Law Enforcement Command Officer Professional (LECOP).
